About the Race:

Runners and walkers of all experience levels are invited to enjoy one of the most scenic road races in the Southeast! With net proceeds from the event going to support the local prevention of child abuse and other child-related programs, the Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child is a beautiful race that helps supports a very important cause.

Now in it's 18th year, the race began with the official opening of the Isle of Palms Connector in October 1993. Starting at the Isle of Palms and crossing into Mount Pleasant, 10K runners and 5K walkers and runners experience a challenging road race across the IOP Connector and are rewarded with beautiful vistas afforded from the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and local creeks and marshes. Quickly becoming one of the most popular and fastest-growing races in South Carolina, last year's race hosted over 1,400 runners and walkers. It's a great way to kick off the fall road race season!

The race begins at the foot of the Isle of Palms Connector at Palm Blvd. and continues across the connector into Mount Pleasant. 5K runners and walkers will loop on the connector to return back to the Isle of Palms. 10K runners will continue across the connector, turning around just before Rifle Rage Rd., then return back across the connector. The finish line will be at J.C. Long Blvd. on the Isle of Palms, where participants will be able to enjoy a post-race festival featuring family-friendly fun.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.chiropracticcharleston.com/events/2010/8/5/8-year-old-boy-in-mt-pleasant-needs-your-help.html"><rss:title>8 Year Old Boy in Mt. Cancer is a disease where once normal cells in the body display uncontrolled growth. One category of cancers that have an effect on many individuals either directly or indirectly are blood cancers including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Here are some statistics on blood cancers:

An estimated 912,938 people in the United States are currently living with, or are in remission from blood cancer.

In 2010 another 139,860 people in the United States will be diagnosed with blood cancer.

Blood cancers will cause the deaths of an estimated 53,240 people in the United States this year.

Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 146 people each day, or more than six people every hour.

Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.

As a country we need to raise money for cancer research so that hopefully future Americans will not be affected. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has stepped up to the plate by organizing several ways for people to raise money for blood cancer research one being Team in Training (TNT). TNT is a group of individuals that train together for a marathon, half marathon, or triathlon. While training for their particular event they raise money for cancer research through donations.

Here is what she says:

“My first event with Team in Training (TNT) was the Marine Corps Marathon last fall, where I raised over $3,500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” Bostic said. “I enjoyed the experience so much that I decided to train & fundraise with TNT again this year. I will be running the full Chicago Marathon as a TNT alumni mentor on 10/10/10 and am working to raise over $2,600 for blood cancer research throughout my training.”
